come with us to a microneedling appt!
We wanted to dive a little deeper into microneedling, since it’s such a fan favorite. We want to set your mind at ease and walk you through what an appointment at our spa looks like. So here is generally what we will have you do!
Consultation
Before the actual treatment, we always like to start with a consultation especially if we aren’t familiar with your skin and your skincare goals. We go over things like skin concerns, medical history, what you want to achieve/expectations, and how aggressive you would like us to be as far as treatments and skincare. What we love is that we are able to offer free skincare consults so just getting in and talking to one of us is super easy and should ALWAYS be done before doing any service! BOOK NOW!
We will then wash your face and take a closer look at your skin and determine whether the plan/procedure is what is best for your skin health and also your goals.
For the actual procedure
Whatever area is being treated (yes, we can treat basically the whole body) is cleansed to remove any makeup, dirt, or oils. Then a topical numbing cream is then applied to the skin to reduce discomfort. We then let it sit for 30 minutes.
While you are numbing this is usually a good time to either draw your blood if you are adding on PRP to your treatments/ PRP stands for platelet rich plasma and is used as the glide for the skin pen. This then means the PRP is penetrated back into your skin to help with down time and increased collagen and elastin production! What's great about this add-on is it is your body's own product, so we are not worried about any adverse reactions and is safe for your skin to absorb!
At our spa, we also offer a “comfort menu” where you can choose from a handful of services to do while you are numbing for 30 minutes. Some of these things can include IV Vitamin therapy, Emsculpt, and other wellness goodies we have! So, take advantage of the time you are here and add on one of these great services!
The Microneedling Procedure
Once your skin is numb, we will wash off the numbing cream and begin the actual procedure itself! We use a super fun motorized pen-like device with tiny needles (usually ranging from 0.5mm to 2.5mm in length) to create controlled micro-injuries to your skin.
These tiny punctures stimulate the skin’s natural healing response, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin, which can help improve skin texture, reduce scars, and give your skin a smoother, healthier appearance.
The procedure typically takes about 20-45 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Post-Treatment Care
After the treatment, most people are red/pink and mild swelling can occur, similar to a mild sunburn. This is normal and usually subsides within a few hours to a day. We like to apply either a soothing serum like our Alastin Skin Nectar or mask to your skin to calm and cool the skin immediately after. Another great post treatment
Our post care for microneedling is pretty simple: avoid sun exposure, makeup, and intense physical activities for a day or two after the procedure and of course always wear your SPF! (Again, here are some of our faves: ZO Daily Sheer, Alastin Hydratint SPF, ZO Powder SPF)
Results and Follow-up
You may see an immediate glow after the treatment, but the real results—like improved texture, reduced scars, or finer lines—typically appear after a few weeks as collagen production ramps up.
Depending on your skin concerns, you might need multiple sessions, we usually will recommend a series of 3 sessions usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart to achieve our desired outcome! Some people may need more, and some people may need less. We always will reassess and make sure we are treating the skin appropriately based off what you would like to see!
After those first initial treatments, we typically will recommend doing the procedure a couple times a year as “maintenance” treatments just to keep up the results. Most importantly we recommend being on appropriate medical grade skin care that will also help maintain those results!
