YAY! It is finally that time, for us northeast Ohioans summer is the time of year we absolutely can't wait for but also a time where our skin can start acting up! Between oil, the buildup of sunscreen, sweat, clogged pores, and sun damage, usually your skin care routine needs a seasonal switch-up. 

The key to healthy summer skin? Keeping it light, protected, exfoliated, and hydrated. Adjusting your products and habits now can prevent breakouts, burns, and premature aging so we are here to walk you through a couple must haves when it comes to skincare and the services you should be doing.

First things first—SPF is non-negotiable. We usually recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 should be your daily go-to, even if you’re staying indoors (yes, UVA rays can sneak through windows!). Reapply every two hours if you’re outside, especially if you’re sweating or swimming. Look for lightweight formulas that won’t clog your pores or leave a white cast. Summer is also a great time to scale back your skincare routine. Heavy creams and layered products can feel suffocating in the heat, so opt for gel-based moisturizers, foaming cleansers, and serums that hydrate without weighing your skin down. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide are great for maintaining moisture balance and calming inflammation caused by sun exposure or heat. 

While you scale back some of your skincare during the summer something we want you to add more of is exfoliation.  Whether it is a physical or chemical exfoliant adding this to your routine a couple times a week is a game changer.  With all the buildup and sweat happening we need to focus on getting all the dead skin off and making sure your skin can properly turn over and let new skin cells come to the surface.  We recommend these exfoliants (Alastin Resurfacing Scrub, ZO Exfoliating Polish, ZO Dual Action Scrub).
