unlocking the power of exosomes!
Why are exosomes getting so much hype? These tiny, naturally occurring particles are released by cells that play a major role in cell-to-cell communication. Think of them as little molecular messengers, delivering proteins, RNA, and other signals that influence how cells behave and heal. They have become so popular recently because of their use in regenerative medicine, skincare, and wellness, thanks to their ability to promote repair and balance in the body.
There are two main types making waves: plant-based exosomes and human-based exosomes. Human-derived exosomes typically come from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and are known for their regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties. These exosomes closely mimic natural cellular signaling in the human body, which make them powerful tools in advanced skincare treatments. They're often used to stimulate tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and support anti-aging at the cellular level.
Then we have plant-based exosomes that are extracted from fruits, vegetables, and herbs. They don't carry human cellular signals but they do contain antioxidants, plant RNAs, and other bioactive ingredients. These exosomes are being explored for their gentle, more natural benefits—they are used a lot in clean skincare or oral supplements to support skin health, reduce oxidative stress, and enhance nutrient absorption.
Both are amazing but their uses depend on your expectations—whether it’s deep regeneration or gentle, plant-powered wellness we can assess which one you need! At our Akron,Ohio med spa we offer a couple different ways to use exosomes.
One type is a daily serum called Plated. This is human derived exosomes, that you use daily on your skin to help with things like rosacea, pigment, and anti aging.
The second type we use is plant derived called DeRive, and we use it as a hair growth serum that helps with hair and volume loss. This serum is delivered onto the scalp using ultrasound and can also be applied daily as a scalp treatment to help with scalp health and making the hair follicles stronger by removing dead skin and toxins.
Lastly, we use another human exosome serum/mask for immediately post treatments. The exosomes help calm the skin and have a cooling effect. This can help with redness and downtime after some of our professional services like MOXI, RF microneedling, and BBL.
The key difference between the two that is important for people to know is how they function: human exosomes directly influence cellular behavior, making them more suited for regenerative and anti-aging use, while plant exosomes act more like nutrient carriers that offer support through natural compounds.
